I currently have two pairs of Sennheiser headphones in addition to the PXC-450s, one of which is an "on-the-ears" PXC-250 with the noise cancellation feature. I have been impressed with the quality of Sennheiser headphones, overall, and have not strongly considered other brands except Sennheiser and Bose. I was looking for a really good over-the-ears set, and it was between the PXC-450s and the Bose QC-15s. I like some Bose products (i.e., the Wave and some Bose headphones) but I settled on Sennheiser again. The PXC-450s are very comfortable over the ears, and the construction is impressively sturdy. The volume and noise cancellation buttons are easy to use. I like the fact that the noise cancellation device and battery compartment are built into one of the headphones as opposed to being in a separate unit connected to the wires, as is the case with the PXC-250s. I have used the PXC-450 headphones primarily with an ipod, listening to an eclectic range of music (from remastered Beatles to classical). The clarity of sounds is strong and the listening experience is excellent, with or without the noise cancellation device activated. The noise cancellation without the music on is fine, and the overall effect works for me. Also, the bass is not overpowering, which fits in with how I prefer to listen to my music anyway. I strongly recommend these headphones.

I got these specifically to filter out office noise listening to streams through my computer, as I'm a programmer in a farm of 6x6 cubes (about 25) with a lot of distracting noise. They accomplish that task well, and I am very happy with the sound quality. I specifically wanted an 'around-the-ear' model, and these aren't noticeably heavy at all; I wear them all day. I have not traveled with them, so I cannot comment on how they perform, say, in an airplane. The controls on the right ear are great. I can adjust the volume as louder or softer tracks play, and the 'Talk-Thru' button works great to allow you to virtually take off the 'phones to have a brief conversation. The on/off button takes a little getting used to, as you have to hold it down for a bit to engage or disengage NoiseGard TM.Note that there is still some outside noise; it's not like wearing earplugs. I still do hear people laughing or talking on the phone, but having ambient tunes with the active noise cancellation makes working much more comfortable. The travel case appears to be well-made, with elastics to hold the adapters (1 for a 1/4" plug; 1 for airplane jacks) and to hold 3 spare AAA batteries. After over a week (5 days), I'm still using one of the original alkaline disposable batteries, so it doesn't seem like the noise cancellation eats up batteries quickly.Last, I would never have paid the original (2007) list price of [$] for these, or for any headphones, but especially since the noise cancellation isn't THAT good. Even the price I paid was a stretch for me, but I consider it worth the money for the bit more quiet to get my work done.

I was in market for a noise cancelling headphones and I saw this headphone. After reading numerous reviews, I decided to purchase this product. I have owned a few Sennheiser products and loved every single of them. And this headphone didn't disappoint me. Comfortable, and typical Sennheiser headphone--sounds awesome. It doesn't have the in your face bass, but enough bass to enjoy. It sounds clear and crisp, which I really love about. Noise cancelling works like a charm, too. Also, having a great deal from JR, buying this is no non-sense.I'm really looking forward my trip and I highly recommend this headphone.

I am a frequent business traveler and have used the QC2 for several years as well as QC3 on several international flights where AA provides them free. I ordered the PXC when my QC2's broke. They do work better than the Bose at noise cancellation, especially in blocking background talking (which the Bose is poor at) and have handy features like the bypass to use when listening to flight announcements or ordering a Jack & Coke! [...] Also, be aware that these things are huge! I mean the look like they were made for Obama-sized ears! They fold for storage but you get some funny looks on the plane because of the size, as they cover half of your head.

Mostly, I use these headphones for working in coffee shops, traveling and watching videos online. They are extremely comfortable, even when using them all day. They nicely cover the ears. Even a busy coffee shop appears quiet and relaxing after turning on the noise-canceling feature. The only gripe I have is the fact that you can't use them in the off position for listening to music.

Extremely comfortable and excellent sound quality with good noise cancellation on Transatlantic flights. Folds up fairly compactly but you need a sizable pocket to carry them unless you want to pack them in the accessory carrying case in hand luggage. One AAA battery keeps noise cancellation effective from USA to Holland and back. Just.

Extremely comfortable over-the-head full ear headphones. If you dislike ear-plug type headphones as much as I (uncomfortable, hard to fit, etc.), these headphones are for you. While the PXC450 may seem to be on the pricey side, just remember they are Sennheiser and with Sennheiser, you always get what you pay for.
